Leaves in Autumn

I love the leaves, I love the leaves.
How sweetly they grow.
I love their colors in autumn--
Brown and yellow, red and orange.
I love the way they sweetly fall.
Then I tell them goodbye;
For those leaves will rot,
And new will come in their place.

Gecko, Gecko, I Love You

"Gecko, gecko, I love you.
Why do not you come near to me?"

Little gecko made no answer,
But crept along the wall.

"Gecko, gecko, gecko gecko
Why do not you answer me?"

The gecko still made no answer
But went under the door.

Then she went out and caught him, and said,
"gecko, gecko, I love you."
Pray, why do you not answer me?

Finally the gecko said,
"I'm scared of humans."
In a very little squeaky voice.

She laughed to hear him and she said,
"No need to be scared of me.
I love little geckos, and I do not catch them to be mean to them,
And I love them so much.
Gecko, gecko, will you come
And live upon my balcony?
In the night I see some geckos roam,
and get upon the wall."

By and by the gecko said,
"Well, yes, but do you have any food for me?"

"No, I don't," she said. "But I will love you."

The gecko's face frowned, and he ran away.

She laughed, and ran after him,
And put a box on top of him.
And he tried to climb up to a small open doorway.

All of a sudden, she shut it and said,
"gecko, gecko, I love you.
Pray, why do not you laugh at me?
I thought you laughed at me when I try to catch you.
And I am very sad when I don't.
Pray why do not you laugh at me?"

"But," said the gecko, "I thought that you didn't like me.
So I don't laugh at you. I'm scared of you."

She laughed again and said,
"no, my little gecko. I do not hate you."

The gecko said, "very well, I will come and live with you on your balcony."

She smiled very happily and said,
"thank you, little gecko. Thank you, thank you."

The Whale King of the Ocean

Big Blue Whale, Big Blue Whale,
How do you do today?

I heard you were king of the ocean,
But I haven't seen any fish bowing to you.

Big Blue Whale, Big Blue Whale,
Pray, why do not they bow to you?

Do you know why?

"I do not know why," said the big blue whale.

Then, I shall ask them.
I think they ought to bow to you.

"My friend the killer whale knows.
They bow to him because he is a large predator.
And none of them dare to disobey him
Because he has such large, sharp teeth.
They do not bow to me because I do not eat meat, but he does.
I love all my little people.
But the killer whale says, "if you do not obey me, I will kill you."

Graceful Flowers Waving in the Meadow

Beautiful flowers, I love you so much.
You wave in the meadow so gracefully and well.
I love you so much. Your beauty is the day.
Shall I take some of you for my mother?
Or shall I leave you to swing in the meadow?
I know not who shall breed you,
But I do know where you came from.
You came from the skies above.
Goodbye, my dear flowers. The winter has come.
It is time for you to fade. But then come again.
It is like when we die, and we come up again.
Except it’s different with you. You fade again.
I love you in my heart.
You are beautiful and graceful
As you wave in the meadow of your birth.

Shy little red and black bug

There is a little bug. He is kind of like a ladybug, except he is an oval. He seems very shy. His legs have tiny little spines on them, but of course they don’t hurt you because he’s just a teeny little scared bug. He has white and brown antennae. The front half of his body is black. The back part of his body is red, with three little black dots. On his front part is a teeny, weeny, hardly seen line, to make out his face. Mama was the first one who saw him, and she called me over. He was so cute we decided to describe him to you. He seemed scared at first, and he kept going under things, where he kept buggling and scrabbling.

The Father That Would Not Let His Children Never Go To Bed

There was a big tree and he told his children it was time to go to sleep. His children were the leaves hanging on the branches up high. They said,

"Please can we hang just one day more?

So the big bare tree let them hang one day more. Yes sir, one day more. In the day the little leaflets whisper,

"If we plead, he might let us stay all the rest of the days."

The bare tree only smiled to hear the little whispering. And when the day was over they pleaded as hard as they could, but they could not move his large heart to let them stay forever. Down they flew with brown and red and yellow wings, away they flew, away to dreamland and to bed.

"Good night, my little leaflets. Long and happy may you sleep."

And when the little leaflets had flown down, they said to big father,

"How nice it is to go to bed."

Little cat run after mouse

Catsy, catsy, where are you? Always jumping over the wall. Always running after little mouse. Sometimes get him, sometimes don't. Little mouse has a little hole in the wall. And I know where. You know where too. You can't get in. Of course, I can't get in either. Little cat, little cat, although you always are cruel to the mouse, you're still a nice creature to have around, unless I am allergic to you.
